(friendship in Japanese)

“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: “What! You too? I thought I was the only one.”
- C.S. Lewis
This was my first "Ski Tour" vacation. A group of 21 strangers met on Feb 2nd, and travelled and skied together for almost 3 weeks. Beyond the great skiing (there was some amazing powder in Japan), the thing I enjoyed most was the people.
I would definitely do a Ski Tour vacation again.
There is something about skiers / snowboarders. We have a shared love of being outdoors and being active. This common connection seemed to allow folks in the group to unite rather easily and enjoy spending time together.
I spent most of my time with a clique of about 6 people, and had just a wonderful time getting to know them, eating great food, drinking, and singing karaoke, singing karaoke in Power Rangers costumes etc etc
Though one specific dude I spent the majority of my time with, and it was a valuable reminder to me how much of a gift a fast friendship is. Adam (Australian, lives in the capital Canberra) and I hung out a whole bunch, chatted about life, who we were, where we were going, or as Adam said, all things "Life Aquatic" (basically shooting the shit).
I was so lucky to hang out with Adam (not to mention his wife Mel who was wonderful too). A fast friendship is such a treat, it gave me another reason to look forward to everyday, but even more valuable to me, it gave me such great validation about who I am. Early in my "Time On" journey its easy to feel like I'm a bit of lone solider drifting around. To chat with someone who had a shared understanding for what I was talking about and feeling helped me feel much more grounded and confident in my exploration. Also we both knew all the words to "Under the Bridge" by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
I owe Adam and Mel the deepest heartfeltbeing a critical part of my fantastic vacation.
I hope I keep in touch with my new friends, but I do wonder how that will play out (friendships at a distance, to discuss another time)
